On November 1st, Little Italy goes vegan !
As the fifth Montreal Vegan Festival just ended, it is now time for the whole world to celebrate animal rights while raising awareness for an ethical and responsible consumption. On November 1st will take place the World Vegan Day!!
Little Italy is not left out, as a great number of shops promote or ease up a vegan alternative for their flexivore and vegan consumers. Mixing tradition and modernity, our neighborhood and our local stores know how to adapt to current issues.
In addition to restaurants, grocery stores offer you the possibility of vegan purchases, allowing you to concoct your dishes in the comfort of your kitchen (and, who knows, maybe even giving them Italian flavors!).
You would like to organize a vegan evening? Here are our suggestions!
Any vegan evening in Little Italy should start with a homemade vegan pizza. Ricardo has a great and simple pizza dough recipe. For the topping, Jean Talon Market, located at 7070 Henri-Julien Avenue, has a great selection of delicious veggies and fine herbs, grown by local farmers.
The vegan food store Gusta, located at 191 Place du Marché-du-Nord, will make you discover protein alternatives to meat, such as their vegan sausages (have you tried Italiana ?!). One of their three plant-based cheeses that you can melt and broil will be perfect for your pizza.
Did you go around all the suggestions of food and wine pairing by the SAQ experts? Rézin Sélection, located at 257 Dante Street, will be able to help you find that right wine for your occasion on their private import list.
For dessert, Trou de Beigne, located at 156 St-Zotique East, will be able to prepare, on order, delicious vegan donuts.
To end this evening smoothly, how about a warm bubble bath with thematic reading? At COOP Coco, located at 273 St-Zotique East, you can find all the ingredients you need to create a personalized bubble bath! As for the read, the bookstore Librairie Gourmande, located at 7070 Henri-Julien Avenue, is full of tantalizing books, such as Les Recettes italiennes et vegan de Chloé.
